June Update

Halfway through the year already — and June has flown by! This month has been really enjoyable, especially because I’ve had lots of opportunities to be creative. I have been working on sewing wheelchair pillows for my friend Murray. They were very much appreciated, and it made me feel good knowing that my skills could help others

For mosaics I created a pair of jandals for the wall, made to the scale of a real foot. It was a fun project and I enjoyed seeing it come together. In acting and role-playing, we have continued working on our Mary Poppins play, which has been lots of fun. I always enjoy getting into character and practising with the group.

On the computer, I have been practising sending emails and listening to some of my favourite songs. For sports, I played target games, which I really enjoyed.

Cooking has been another highlight this month. We made blueberry muffins for the ball, a tasty pasta sauce, and a delicious chickpea curry — all very yummy!

For my outings, I visited my friends at Wilrose. I’m always excited to catch up with friends from the other centres and spend time together.

I’m also enjoyed the ball this month. I danced and sang lots of songs with my friends. It was such a special experience, and I feel very grateful to be part of it all at Ahoranui.

There has been so much to enjoy this month, and I’m excited to see what the next month brings!

May- Monthly update

This month was full of creativity, fun, and relaxing activities, and I had such a great time with my friends. One of my favourite activities was making fish artwork with our friends from Te Puke. I really enjoyed choosing my own shells to decorate my fish.

I also had loads of fun in the sensory room, where I explored different sensory bins filled with Orbeez, string, and polystyrene balls. It made me so happy. Another big achievement for me was finishing sewing one of my chest protectors. I felt very proud of myself and was excited to wear it home.

I had the best time creating mosaics for my jandals wall piece. I loved chopping and chipping the tiles with the hammer and then sorting all the pieces into colours before designing my artwork.

In drama, we continued practising for the Mary Poppins play. We really put our vocal cords to the test while singing “Feed the Birds,” and I loved being part of it.

I also enjoyed some relaxing pamper activities this month. I had an awesome foot spa and massage, and afterwards my hands were massaged and my fingernails were painted. Another day, I got my nails done again and even chose my own nail colour before finishing with another relaxing foot spa.

We also played a new Velcro ball game, which was so much fun. I was really happy because I got to play properly using both hands, and I really liked the game.

In cooking, we made mini cheesecakes and decided to add blueberries. They tasted delicious!  One of my favourite parts of the month was going to Wildrose to see my friends and enjoy waiata together. I always love spending time there.

Working on my friends strength as I make awesome towers and watch them fall. I also loved adding some ramps and corners to make a cool endless marble run that made noise when  I shook it
